Job Description | The Part-Time Veteran Career Services Office Coordinator job is available at the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) Veteran Career Services. The position involves providing administrative and operational functions to support Syracuse University veteran and military-connected students to achieve their career goals. The coordinator will work closely with the Director of Veteran Career Services and assist in organizing events, coordinating service, programs, managing platforms, and maintaining relationships with alumni, employers, and community partners.
Education and Experience | Associate degree is required, accompanied by 5+ years of professional experience in administration, data entry, event planning, customer services, and marketing. Minimum of 4 years of administrative support experience, a comprehensive understanding of the needs and challenges of veteran and military-connected students, and outstanding organizational and communication skills required. Experience in planning and organizing events, workshops, and programs related to veteran and military-connected student career development. Part-time position with an expected workload of 25 hours per week, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Skills and Knowledge | Required knowledge and understanding of the needs and challenges of veteran and military-connected students. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. Knowledge of social media platforms and website content management is preferred.
Responsibilities |
Event and Program Coordination: Provides administrative support for the planning and implementation of career-focused programs and services, including career immersion trips, networking events, internship awards, and professional development initiatives aimed at facilitating successful job placement for military-connected students. Coordinates career-focused services and programs, overseeing outreach initiatives, event logistics, travel arrangements, marketing, participant communications, and preparation of program materials. Partners with vendors, employers, and community stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery and strengthen services for military-connected students. Ability to collaborate with vendors both within and outside the university while ensuring compliance with all university guidelines.
Data Management, Analysis and Reporting: Maintains platforms, databases, spreadsheets, and documentation related to veteran and military-connected student employment and career development. Supports survey data collection efforts to identify employment, trends, and opportunities in services for veteran and military-connected students. Assists in the preparation of reports and presentations related to the effectiveness of career services programs for veteran and military-connected students. Performs monthly reconciliation of budget expenditures and contracts as necessary within the program.
Relationship Building and Marketing: Assists in cultivating and nurturing relationships with alumni, employers, and community partners to foster the creation of employment opportunities and internships for veteran and military-connected students. Supports the creation and distribution of marketing materials for career services programs and events, including managing social media and website content.
Other position-related duties as assigned, to include but are not limited to: Participates in professional development activities to ensure continued expertise and knowledge needed to provide effective leadership and program innovation. Takes part in various professional organizations and veteran-focused initiatives and meetings on the local, regional, and national levels.
