General Information:
James Madison University Information Technology is currently hiring for a Windows Systems Engineer. As a member of a team of Systems Engineers, the Windows Systems Engineer is primarily responsible for Exchange on-prem and online email services in a hybrid environment, with additional responsibilities including routine and advanced system administration of cloud and on-premise Windows software and systems. This position includes being part of an on-call rotation. A hybrid work arrangement is possible, with some responsibilities requiring on-site presence.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
Primarily responsible for maintaining the email environment, including Exchange and Postfix on-premises and Microsoft 365 cloud products to perform at acceptable levels, including managing SPF/DKIM/DMARC, and tenant quotas. This includes administering, troubleshooting, upgrading, patching, and resolving tickets as applicable for Email and related communication and collaboration systems, as well as Microsoft Windows physical/virtual servers, and applications managed by the Windows team. This includes but is not limited to: Active Directory, M365, Dell hardware, VMware, Crowdstrike, Pure Storage, and Commvault. 

Additional responsibilities include: maintaining legacy systems, researching and proposing new solutions to improve existing processes or systems--both on-prem and in the cloud--, managing and mitigating vulnerabilities, and creating and maintaining thorough documentation of administrative processes and systems. Adapting well to change in both technology and delivery of services.
 
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience with Exchange services administration and management in a hybrid environment, including adhering to best practices and organizational strategy. 

Knowledge of installation, troubleshooting, and supporting Windows, Active Directory, M365, SAN and VMware in an enterprise environment. 

Knowledge of security best practices and/or established benchmarks 

Knowledge of installing and supporting computer hardware and peripheral devices to include: servers, datacenter networking, storage & backup systems - including contingency management and disaster recovery. 

Demonstrated experience with scripting and programming languages for system administration. 

Demonstrated experience with Entra, Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Networking, Storage, Enterprise Backup Solutions, software, and hardware troubleshooting. 

Ability to communicate technical complexity clearly & understandably through written documentation, verbal explanations, and formal presentations.
