Job Description
The Academic Advisor I is responsible for providing quality undergraduate advising to College of Education majors and pre-majors and serving as an advisor and resource to prospective students and their parents.
Job Duties
  • Provide undergraduate academic advising to College of Education majors and pre-majors.
  • Assist students in interpreting degree audit reports and transcripts as well as explaining complex academic policies, performing complicated grade point average calculations, and providing referrals to other offices and services on campus.
  • Maintain confidential student files and records through accurate and thorough documentation.
  • Provide general information and outstanding customer service to prospective students, parents, and other members of the public.
  • Communicate with academic departments and other university units.
  • Participate in University recruitment through outreach activities such as Bobcat Days.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation and Commencement activities.
  • Assist in the career development process for students as it relates to the selection of a degree program.
  • Assist with advising center processes such as graduation application reviews and determinations of courses counting toward degree for Financial Aid.
  • Represent the College of Education through membership and participation on cross-campus advising committees and teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • (Normal hours are M-F, 8-5; some remote work is allowed but primary work location is on the physical San Marcos campus; some infrequent night/weekend work is required for participation at Bobcat Days and with Commencement).
