Job Summary
Working collaboratively with the Director of the Mustang Success Center (MSC) and college advising staff, the Academic Advisor designs, develops, and implements programs to support the academic success of students regardless of college or department affiliation.

Department Summary
The Mustang Success Center provides comprehensive, centralized developmental academic advising to support undergraduate students with their successful transition and integration into Cal Poly. The center’s staff guides students to clear pathways of success to promote timely graduation.

Key Qualifications
  • Delivers comprehensive academic advising and critical support services to students seeking services from the Mustang Success Center, including Cal Poly Scholars and student athletes
  • Uses interviewing and counseling techniques to provide one-on-one academic advising, mentoring, career planning, personal support, and developmental group sessions
  • Coordinates, facilitates, and leads essential workshops targeted at first-year student milestones, including Orientation, Registration, and the Change of Major process
  • Drives continuous program improvement through a feedback loop and ongoing assessment of student-success data
  • Recommends, leads, and coordinates the implementation of new programs promoting student success, including the First Year Success Program, Orientation, and an early-alert system

Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field, plus two years of professional experience in a student services program area or related field. Salary
Anticipated hiring range: $60,996–$64,000 per year (classification range up to $86,736 per year).
