Admission Assistants in the Office of Undergraduate Admission participate as pre-readers in a team effort to prepare admission applications for review by full-time staff. This includes reviewing the transcript, providing a curriculum summary, and recalculating the high school GPA for each applicant. Admission Assistants (pre-readers) do not review any qualitative elements of the application, such as essays or recommendation letters.
This is a seasonal position from September 1 through May 1 and is entirely remote. From September 1 through mid-October, the position requires 3-5 hours of work per week. From mid-October through mid-February, the position requires 15-25 hours per week (depends on application volume each week). From mid-February through May 1, there are typically only a few hours of work required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in the student admission process by reviewing student applications for completeness, maintaining departmental databases, generating correspondence, and communicating policies and procedures.
- Evaluates accepted student transcripts to determine transfer of earned credits.
- May assist in developing and maintaining departmental information systems.
- Processes incoming and outgoing mail.
- Greets visitors and answers and screens incoming telephone calls.
- Maintains required record-keeping.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
- Data entry for record keeping.
- Developing proficiency in reading a variety of different high school transcripts and high school profiles.
- Attending regular pre-reading training sessions and meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent and one year of clerical experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Prior admissions or industry experience preferred but not required.
