Amplify is seeking an English Language Arts (ELA) K-5 Assessment and Activity Designer to create K-5 digital literacy assessments and activities that reflect our core program’s content architecture, reporting structure, and vision for overall impact while aligning to the science of how children learn to read, key literacy competencies, and learning standards across the United States. The Assessment and Activity Designer focuses on deeply understanding the vision for curriculum, measurement/assessments, and reporting in K-5 literacy; trans-adapting English assessment items as appropriate and creating new assessment items as needed to measure critical skills with sufficient depth and breadth; creating assessment items; creating practice activities; and contributing to an iterative process of strategic improvements to ensure assessments and activities produce results that can be used to make meaningful and instructionally useful decisions and recommendations for students. The ELA K-5 Assessment and Activity designer will work as part of a cross-functional agile team.
*This is a contract role expected to end 5/31/26.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop and review assessment and activity content (auto-scored items, open-ended items, rubrics, game-based tasks)
- Develop content that meets the needs of a variety of learners
- Source rich and engaging texts for assessment purposes
- Refine existing processes for developing and reviewing content
- Organize a process for collecting qualitative and quantitative data and using the data for iterative improvements of assessments and activities
- Design reports of student progress against key competencies
- Collaborate with research and measurement team members, content team members, designers, developers, product managers, and other content producers to bring assessments to life
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of teaching or instructional/curriculum/assessment design experience & 2+ years of work experience in education or curriculum/assessment publishing with a familiarity in assessment content development
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education-related field (e.g., Education, Special Education, School Psychology) with an emphasis on literacy and/or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience writing fair and appropriate selected response assessment items measuring students’ early literacy and comprehension skills
- Experience designing rubrics and clear criteria for success on a broad range of projects and assessments
- Experience with digital assessment design and delivery
- Excellent leadership and collaboration skills; excellent written and verbal communication
- Broad understanding of the K-5 educational landscape, including the science of reading, state standards, and formative assessment models
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and balance work on multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education-related field (e.g., Education, Special Education, School Psychology) with an emphasis on literacy
- Experience working in or with Educational Technology
- Basic familiarity with validity, reliability, and best practices for designing fair and appropriate assessments
- Deep knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or other spreadsheet software
Compensation:
The hourly rate range for this role is $40.00-$45.00.
