Description | Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Enrollment Management and Admissions and Associate Dean for Admissions, the Assistant Director of Admissions is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the medical school admissions office to ensure a smooth and efficient admissions process. This position requires a deep understanding of medical school admissions best practices, a proven track record of success in recruitment and outreach, and strong leadership and team management skills. They will play a vital role in shaping the future of the medical school by attracting and enrolling a diverse and talented student body.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversees the daily operations of the admissions office, ensuring efficient and effective processing of applications and of prospective and applicant inquiries. Oversees all aspects of interview days, including full management of the Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) process ensuring smooth operation of the circuit, mini skills, and Q&A sessions. Directly supervises the Admissions Outreach and Engagement Manger and Senior Assistant, providing guidance and support, delegating tasks, and managing their workloads. This includes oversight of Admissions Committee functions such as participation surveys and interviewer/skills needs. Plans, executes and attends a diverse range of in-person and virtual recruitment events which includes, but not limited to, in-person events such as those at Columbia, presentations to the College Pipeline Program and the North Shore Healthcare exploration program, panels, and attendance at conferences like the National GSA meeting. Leads weekly admissions team meetings. Oversees the planning and execution of all in person and virtual accepted and waitlisted student engagement events. Collaborates with the new and prospective student committee to ensure current student involvement. Works with the Operations team, Custodial staff, Event Services and faculty. Develops and executes comprehensive communication and outreach strategies to engage prospective students at all stages of the application process. Collaborates with the Office of Communications on social media, website content, and email marketing campaigns. Develops and implements strategic admissions plans and initiatives in alignment with the overall mission and goals of the medical school. Continuously evaluates and refines admissions processes to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and applicant experience. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required. Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in admissions, recruitment, or a related field with demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to work independently, accurately, and to collaborate as appropriate. Deep understanding of medical school admissions processes and best practices. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must have superb computer skills, with proficiency in Zoom and the ability to troubleshoot basic technology issues. Experience using Microsoft Office products, including Word (mail merge and tables), Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and experience with student information systems (e.g., Ellucian Banner). Experience with data analysis and reporting tools. Ability to implement best practices and leverage technology to streamline workflows.
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Salary/Salary Range | $82,000 - $87,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.
*Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA.
