The SPED Compliance Assistant Manager directs and coordinates special education compliance staff in preparing and documenting all compliance documents required for serving students with special needs. They will guide the staff in facilitating all district approved SPED processes, as well as work collaboratively with the instructional team in coordinating student services. There may also be additional duties as needed for district, state, or Stride reporting.
This is a full-time REMOTE position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 8am-5pm central time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
- Develop, implement, and disseminate “best practices” for special education policies and procedures in collaboration with school leadership
- Oversee the development, compliance, maintenance, and implementation of all Individualized Education Plans (IEP).
- Ensure fiscal compliance for special education programs including IDEA Part B funds and compliance with all school, local, state, and federal reporting related to special education
- Work with the Testing Manager and team to ensure that all students receive appropriate accommodations during state testing and support ACTC’s and coordinators during testing dates.
- Work with K12 enrollment and records teams to develop processes for ensuring timely identification and enrollment of students with special needs
- Proactively communicate all changes in processes and procedures to special education compliance staff.
- Ensure that special education students are integrated in all school activities and that general education and special education teachers and administrative staff work collaboratively to ensure academic success for all students
- Collect data for internal studies of special education. Work directly with parents and students (both regular and special education) where necessary.
- As needed, researches and implements non-K12 curriculum resources that meet state standards;
- Manages compliance, coordinator and clerk staff
- Oversees Onboarding and training of new compliance staff
- Helps articulate the school’s mission and vision with the aim of ensuring all stakeholders have a common understanding and are positioned to work cooperatively in order to achieve desired results; Utilizes/relies heavily upon communication technologies and practices that most effectively support a virtual / remote work environment;
- Ensures that the school is meeting the needs of students while complying with local, state, and federal laws, including laws pertaining to special education;
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 20-30 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) regular employees and/or contractors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in education, special education, or related field of study AND
- Five (5) years of educational experience AND
- One (1) year of supervisory experience OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Certificates and Licenses: Valid state Special Education teaching certification.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrable leadership, organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.
- Ability to travel 20% of the time
- Ability to clear required background check
DESIRED Qualifications:
- Experience as an on-line / virtual educator
- Supervisory Experience in on-line environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is a home-based position with travel expectations.
