Cloud Backup Administrator Full Description

Job Description
The Division of IT is responsible for providing an enterprise level cloud back up solution for the university. This position will lead efforts related to selection, adoption and implementation and continued management of this service. The Cloud Backup Administrator is also responsible for ensuring the stability, reliability, and recoverability of university endpoint data through the efficient administration and management of backup and recovery processes, including the Virginia Tech Cloud Backup and Recovery application. This position requires a detail-oriented and analytical individual who can troubleshoot and solve complex problems related to data backup, protection, and recovery. The position maintains infrastructural systems and services and oversees client management for university provided backup solutions. This position supports a university-wide backup solution by independently resolving problems or working with outside vendors or other University units to achieve final resolution. The position serves as a member of Virginia Tech’s Endpoint Management solutions team and provides backup as necessary. Duties include managing university tenant(s) and installing, configuring, troubleshooting, monitoring, administering, and upgrading infrastructural systems and services. Provides support for incidents escalated from Systems Administrators. Performs systems administration duties such as, but not limited to, backup and disaster recovery processes, server patching and maintenance, ensuring security, and provisioning resources for Faculty and Staff.

Required Qualifications
• Master’s degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar) OR a combination of education, training and work experience that equates to a Master’s degree.
• Demonstrated experience as a systems administrator with knowledge of backup and recovery processes and administration
• Understanding of cloud concepts, services, and security.
• Working knowledge of cloud backup and recovery tools such as CrashPlan, Carbonite or similar
• Experience with scripting languages for automating backup processes.
• Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Analytical and detail-oriented mindset to ensure accuracy and completeness of backup and recovery processes
• Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and collaborate effectively with others
• Demonstrated ability to interface with users over the telephone, via email, or in person to effectively communicate problem status and resolutions.
• Demonstrated communication and technical writing skills.
• Demonstrated self-starter with ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and projects.

Preferred Qualifications
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security +
• Experience with user authentication and authorization protocols such as SAML, SSO and LDAP
• Experience working in complex organizations that utilize hierarchical structures for managing endpoints and creation of organizational structure (parent/child) 
• Familiarity with administering Endpoint Management solutions in a distributed enterprise environment
• Demonstrated experience administering Windows and Linux servers in an enterprise environment
• Knowledge of fundamental Internet applications and protocols, such as, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, SCP, NTP, HTTP(S), and DHCP
• Experience with project management concepts and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to conduct vendor evaluations
