Job Description:
The Community Outreach Specialist supports student success and strategic growth at the School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC) by leading outreach, recruitment, and career readiness initiatives. Plans and coordinates community outreach programs for the School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC). Assists leadership in developing and maintaining education, business, government, professional and community linkages in furtherance of the University's and unit mission. Serves as a key liaison between SILC, alumni, employers, and community partners and helps build internship pipelines, coordinates career development events, and fosters alumni engagement. 

Position Salary Range:
$50,000 - $55,000; DOE

Essential Duties:
  • Acts as liaison with the community, SILC alumni, and employer partners; represents SILC and the university at internal and external events.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of objectives and goals for community outreach and student recruitment for SILC.
  • Develops and maintains an alumni engagement strategy to enhance career networking, mentorship opportunities, and storytelling about student and alumni success.
  • Builds and manages relationships with employers, community organizations, and international partners to create internship pipelines and career development opportunities for students.
  • Supports SILC students in career readiness through coordination of workshops, LinkedIn profile building events, and employer-led information sessions.
  • Collaborates with ASU Career Services, academic advisors, and faculty to align outreach activities with student success, internship, and job placement goals.
  • Participates in the planning and execution of recruitment and outreach activities, including presentations to prospective students, high school visits, and on-campus engagement like SILC's Language Fair.
  • Coordinates a resource network that may include volunteers, faculty, alumni, students, and staff to plan and execute internal and external events.
  • Duties may require hours of work during evenings and/or weekends for events.
  • Performs needs assessments and stakeholder outreach to identify opportunities for public engagement, partnership development, and program visibility.
  • May lead, provide direction, and train staff, volunteers, and/or student employees.
  • Prepares reports on outreach and recruitment performance, community engagement outcomes, internship placement data, and career-readiness initiatives.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Ability to travel for meetings; driver's license required
  • Familiarity with community organizations in the metro Phoenix area
  • Familiarity with international businesses with a presence in the metro Phoenix area
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience working with college students on career development, internship matching, or mentoring programs
  • Knowledge of one or more languages beyond English
  • Proficiency using LinkedIn and other digital platforms for career networking and employer engagement
  • Experience planning recruitment events or outreach campaigns
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including cross-cultural communication
  • Experience working in a university or multicultural setting preferred

Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
