The department of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking a Counselor to join our team! In this role you will support the UNL student population’s mental health care. The Counselor assists students in reaching their educational, developmental, and emotional goals by providing psychologically informed diagnostic services, treatment, consultation, and education. Consistent with CAPS’s commitment to excellence, in this position you will connect and support student groups.

As a Counselor you will: Provide individual, group, and relationship counseling and psychotherapy with UNL Students. Be available and provide emergency response to students’ mental health emergencies. Conduct on campus training, presentations, workshops and classroom presentations as it relates to CAPS services. Interact and collaborate with other professionals within the University Health Center and across campus. Collaborate and consult with professional colleagues. Perform routine case management.
Applicants interested in group therapy and/or working with body image and disordered eating are also encouraged to apply.

Counseling and Psychology Services has a Licensure Career Ladder Program and once a counselor has their LiMHP and has worked at CAPS for at least one year, they can choose to work an 11 month position with a month in the summer off. Come and grow with us!

Minimum Required Qualifications  | Master’s degree M.A.; M.S.; M.S.W in counseling or closely related field. Must have at least one year working full-time providing counseling & therapy to clients after the master’s degree is conferred. Eligibility for licensure as Provisional Mental Health Practitioner in the State of Nebraska is minimally required and must be secured prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications  | Clearly demonstrates one’s ability to connect with and support all student groups and populations. Experience working with eating disorder and body image concerns is helpful. Experience working in a comprehensive counseling center at a college or university is helpful. Exposure to stepped care and short-term models of counseling are also helpful. Licensure as a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner.
