SUMMARY:
The Education Media Design Specialist works as part of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence to design and develop multimedia content in various formats including, but not limited to static images, audio/video, interactive elements, and ADA-compliant materials for the learning management system and other assigned projects. Incumbent must ensure that the South University mission is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
1. Develop and produce a wide variety of interactive multimedia elements including graphics, animations, videos, and interactive modules to enhance course content and support student learning.
2. Collaborate with Instructional Designers, Faculty, and Subject Matter Experts to create visually appealing, ADA and WCAG compliant educational materials and interactive multimedia content using industry-standard tools.
3. Proactively provide multimedia samples and model concepts to instructional designers and subject matter experts to meet learning objectives and course needs.
4. Apply a solution-focused approach to identify and implement appropriate multimedia solutions for instructional problems and learning needs.
5. Create and edit video content for academic events and projects, ensuring brand consistency and high-quality standards.
6. Organize and maintain comprehensive course media archives and file storage systems, developing and maintaining efficient project workflows.
7. Take ownership and accountability for assigned projects from concept through completion, ensuring quality standards and deadlines are consistently met.
8. Remain current with design and technology trends, adopting modern techniques across web, desktop, and mobile platforms to enhance the education experience.
9. Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with agility, producing high quality work, sometimes under tight deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail and brand consistency.
10. Monitor effectiveness and usability of course media and web-based content, implementing improvements based on user feedback and analytics.
11. Communicate with university support services to create training materials for faculty and students, supporting the adoption of educational technology tools.
12. Collaborate with team leadership to support other academic and university projects and initiatives that need media design support.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in educational technology, Graphic Design, Web Design, Multimedia Design, or related field preferred.
• Associates degree with additional direct experience may be considered Minimum 2 years’ experience in multimedia and educational technology design with proven experience in media development
• Familiarity with asynchronous, facilitator-led online learning environments and educational technology principles
• Knowledge of ADA compliance requirements and WCAG guidelines for accessible digital content
• Customer service-oriented mindset with focus on educational outcomes
• Understanding of full development cycle experience (analysis, design, development, testing, and support)
• Proficiency with current design and development tools including Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects), and HTML/CSS.
• Knowledge of e-authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Rise, TechSmith Camtasia, and Vyond preferred
• Experience with creation and editing of videos and multimedia assets including lighting, audio recording, and post-production editing
• Experience on PC and Mac platforms
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple stakeholders
• Understanding of responsive design principles and mobile-first approaches preferred
