The Maryland Transportation Institute (MTI), housed within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) in the A. James Clark School of Engineering, is a catalyst for high-caliber transportation and disaster resilience research, education and technology transfer. MTI supports the mission of improving quality of life and economic development in Maryland and beyond.
The Finance Specialist will report to the Associate Director for Research Services and will be
responsible for the finance and administrative functions for MTI, providing assistance as needed to
CEE and serving as a liaison to central University offices. This position plays an instrumental role
in enabling MTI's continued growth, thereby allowing it to remain one of the technical leaders
and innovators in transportation.
Job duties entail managing sponsored research administration pre-award, including working with PIs and ORA to complete the proposal routing and submission process, and post-award, including preparing financial reports for PIs and sponsors and reviewing expenses/monitoring cost share accounts to ensure compliance. Additionally, the position will perform financial tasks for the MTI state and DRIF, start-up and gift accounts for MTI faculty as well as review and approve costing allocations; identify areas of concern and work with the Associate Director and PI to resolve; provide excellent customer service to faculty and students; assist and serve as back-up to CEE as requested; and complete other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Three (3) years of professional grants, finance, or accounting experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of grants related policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.Skill in oral and written communication.Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
