Pay Range Information | Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary | Academic Fellows are upper-level (second-and third-year) law students with strong academic records and grades in each class for which they serve as an Academic Fellow. Academic Fellows are assigned to a variety of doctrinal courses, including but not limited to most first-year courses, as well as the Constitutional Law, Evidence, and Corporations courses. The Academic Fellows hold office hours to respond to student questions. The Academic Fellows may also lead review sessions and distribute exercises in the substantive law subjects for feedback on writing and substance, designed to improve students’ exam writing skills.
Responsibilities | Office Hours Hold regular office hours weekly during the semester, for up to 13 weeks total. During these office hours, be available to respond to student questions regarding the course.
Review SessionsPrepare content for scheduled review sessions. Lead review sessions for the course in order to prepare students for exams. May distribute to students- and review- exercises in the substantive law subjects and/or provide feedback on writing and substance. These are designed to improve students’ exam writing skills. May review substantive law.
Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications | Currently enrolled student at Chapman University Fowler School of Law with successful completion of 1L year at an ABA accredited law school. Selection by the FSOL professor of the course for which an Academic Fellow is being hired, or by the Assistant Dean of Academic Achievement. Exceptional written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills. Ability to provide direct, constructive feedback. Strong organizational and time management skills with an ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities. Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to work independently and to take direction. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and demonstrate tact and diplomacy.
Desired Qualifications | A minimum grade of 3.5 in the course for which an Academic Fellow is being hired. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
