Human Resources Assistant Director/S Full Description

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Benefits, the Assistant Director will administer multiple benefit programs from the point of vendor selection to implementation and addressing any service issues that may arise.  This position collaborates with the Director to sustain, promote, and grow benefit programs in support of the strategic plan including data analysis, compliance-related analysis, and identifying the impact on systems.  This is a non-union position.
This position manages multiple programs for Human Resources (HR) Benefits, including but not limited to; negotiating with vendors over service and benefits costs; assisting the Director of Benefits in the overall administration of the benefits function, including acting as a proxy for the Director as needed during absences; investigating new benefits programs, improving existing programs, and supervising benefits administration and data management, as well as providing analytical and technical support in the delivery of benefits programs having a broad impact on MSU Human Resources and the university.
This position is based in East Lansing, Michigan, on the campus of Michigan State University.  Human Resources embraces flexible work options, and this position allows for a hybrid schedule (if desired), with regular onsite work required 2-3 days per week. All work schedules are assessed for impact to the work outcomes of the individual, team, and department – and must be pre-approved by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Human Resources Administration or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in benefits administration; experience working collaboratively with key stakeholders; experience with IRS Section 125 self-funded and fully insured benefits administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with ERISA and COBRA plans, Medicare and Medicaid coordination, ACA reporting, and supervision of a team of managers; current PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM- SCP, and/or CEBS certification; advanced degree in Human Resources Administration or a related field; experience in higher education and contract and union negotiations.
