Department Summary

The UNT System Human Resources Department is one department made of a team of teams that supports various constituencies and component institutions within our UNT System Enterprise while working together to achieve the vision of becoming an enterprise that is values-driven and customer-focused with an emphasis on excellence, curiosity, and innovation. There are exciting things on the horizon, and we are looking for experienced and innovative HR professionals to join our journey.

Position Overview

The HR Generalist partners with campus stakeholders to administer human resources programs and resolve a variety of routine human resources issues in the areas of employee relations, organizational development and engagement, compensation, benefits and leave, performance management, and talent acquisition. This position is customer facing and maintains a service oriented approach to provide guidance and advice on human resources related matters, including policy and procedure interpretation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of human resources experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws relating to human resources, affirmative action and EEO
• Working knowledge of MS Office suite Skill in using office computer information systems to organize, store, manipulate and retrieve data
• Effective communication skills both orally and in writing
• Critical thinking skills Ability to plan, organize and effectively manage multiple assignments
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Focused on providing a high level of customer service and follow through

Job Duties

  • Partners with university departments, managers, and employees to provide consultation and support to designated business units to implement customer facing business and people solutions that enable accomplishment of business unit objectives and align with university culture. 
  • Administers human resources programs that includes managing payroll change requests, emergency leave requests, maintaining personnel file documents, and flexible work arrangement requests. 
  • Develops and facilitates training including new hire orientation. 
  • Provides assistance in coordination of employee recognition events and other campus specific programs. 
  • Coordinates documents and responds to fulfill public information requests. Queries and compiles data, conducts research and data analysis, and develops reports on various human resources functions. 
  • Partner with HR specialists in benefits, compensation and talent acquisition to deliver integrated HR solutions.  
  • Serves as a purchasing card holder to process procurement transactions and provides backup support for front-desk operations. 
  • Maintains an effective level of business acumen, institutional knowledge and literacy regarding business units, including core business, culture, and short and long range plans. Provides input and feedback on process improvements to enhance delivery of services and programs, including researching emerging trends and practices in the field and the higher education industry. 
  • Provides backup support for employment eligibility verification processes in accordance with established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with Form I-9 completion and eVerify submissions, handling reverifications, resolving temporary Social Security number issues, and supporting the I-9 Coordinator as needed.
