Responsibilities
Information Technology Specialist, I
Perform duties across multiple areas of information technology, such as computer hardware, server software, networking, telecommunications, computer support, database analysis, data security, and other areas of the overall IT platform/infrastructure. Responsible for the stability, integrity, and operation of all systems by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network software, hardware, and operating systems. Report system downtime and performance issues. Conduct analysis, including planning, designing, and evaluating a variety of information technology tools. Respond to user requests for system needs and upgrades. Manage security solutions, including firewalls, antivirus, and intrusion protection systems. Perform scheduled network tasks, update antivirus definition files, monitor network servers, and provide internet and intranet user support. Participate in IT projects to drive technological efficiencies. Requires basic skill set and proficiency. Conducts work assignments as directed. Closely supervised with little latitude for independent judgment.

  • Diagnose and resolve software, hardware, and network connectivity issues for laptops, desktops, tablets, phones, etc. in a timely and professional manner.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computers, peripherals, software applications, and manage endpoints through MDM solutions to ensure secure and efficient device operations.
  • Support AV equipment used in classrooms.
  • Participate in on boarding/off boarding processes, including device provisioning and access setup.
  • Manage user access in supported systems.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of IT assets.
  • Document processes in IT knowledge base.
  • Manage progress of work in task system.
  • Collaborate with team members and other IT departments.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users.
  • Provide training and guidance to users on common tools and platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with university IT policies, security standards, and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows, macOS, iOS, operating systems, common productivity software, and networking concepts.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to write scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Batch, Bash, Zsh).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation.

Preferences
  • Primarily on-site in an office, with occasional remote support.
  • May require lifting and moving IT equipment (up to 40 lbs).
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems, Azure, Active Directory, and IT ticketing systems.
  • Applied knowledge of security best practices and data protection standards. Change to familiarity or something that denotes applied experience.
