Job Description
As a Learning and Development Specialist, you will be a core member of the Stores Enablement team in our Physical Retail space. Your primary responsibility will be to execute the training necessary to prepare employees for the launch of new retail locations. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating training programs to support the development of our retail workforce, with a core focus on new store openings (NSO). You will collaborate with various stakeholders to identify training needs, create engaging learning materials, and facilitate training sessions. The ideal candidate will be passionate about employee development, have deep experience in retail operations, and possess strong communication and facilitation skills. This role requires extensive travel, up to 75%, to support new and existing locations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. New Store Opening (NSO) Training Execution:
  • Execute the training plan and activities required for the successful launch of new retail store locations, including pre-opening, opening week, and post-opening support, as directed by the Stores Enablement leadership.
  • Serve as the on-site training expert, delivering immersive, hands-on training to new store leadership and team members on all operational procedures, product knowledge, and customer experience standards.
  • Ensure all new hires follow the established training schedule and curriculum, escalating any issues to the team leadership.
Training Delivery & Travel:
  • Deliver training sessions across the country, requiring up to 75% travel.
  • Facilitate training sessions in-person and virtually using a variety of instructional techniques, such as group discussions, role-playing, and hands-on activities.
  • Adapt training delivery methods to accommodate diverse learning preferences and geographic locations.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to employees to reinforce learning and skill application.
Program Design and Development:
  • Contribute to the design and development of engaging and interactive training materials specific to new store operations and foundational retail knowledge.
  • Utilize instructional design principles to create effective learning experiences tailored to different learning styles and skill levels.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and relevance of training content.
Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:
  • Collaborate with department managers and corporate partners to identify training needs based on performance gaps, new product launches, policy changes, and organizational goals.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to ensure process changes are trained effectively.
  • Develop and administer assessments to measure the effectiveness of training programs and identify areas for improvement, particularly post-NSO.
  • Analyze training data and feedback to make recommendations for program enhancements and future learning initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in learning and development, with a strong preference for prior experience supporting new retail store openings or multi-unit operations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% nationally.
  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning theories.
  • Proficiency in instructional design software and learning management systems (LMS).
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Current Wayfair training experience preferred.
