Orientation Program Coordinator Full Description

Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of New Student and Family Programs, the Orientation Program Coordinator will lead the coordination of transition programs for first-year and transfer students, with specific focus on orientation planning and student leader development. The Coordinator will also assist with parent/family orientation programs, which introduce incoming students and their families to the university community and its resources, policies, and procedures, and will lead administrative initiatives including Spartan Link Online Orientation, social media, and website management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designs and implements orientation programs offered to new students prior to each semester
  • Supports First year and Transfer Orientation, including set up, Orientation Leader debrief meetings, and session facilitation
  • Coordinates event scheduling, food services, facilitators, and rooms to accommodate student needs
  • Communicates with campus partners to confirm participation of guest speakers and panelists
  • Coordinates Parent and Family Orientation to run concurrently with and aligned to the student orientation schedule
  • Develops and facilitates the annual New Spartan Convocation in collaboration with the Assistant Director
  • Writes and edits content for the SJSU online orientation platform, Spartan Link
  • Assists with updating the New Student & Family Programs website and managing social media platforms
  • Conducts assessment of student orientation programs, including surveys and focus groups
  • Leads recruitment, selection, and training of Orientation Leader student staff
  • Designs and facilitates the Orientation Leadership UNVS 199 course, Orientation Leader Retreat, and Final Training
  • Plans and leads weekly Orientation Leader meetings in collaboration with the Assistant Director

Required Qualifications
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience (a related master's degree may substitute for one year)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Higher Education, or Student Affairs
  • Experience with orientation programming and working with parents and families in a higher education setting
  • Experience providing administrative support
  • Experience with the NODA Association or the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education

Compensation
Classification: Student Services Professional III. Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,540/month (CSU Salary Range: $5,540/month - $7,893/month).
