About Us
Chess.com is one of the largest gaming sites in the world and the #1 platform for playing, learning, and enjoying chess.

We are a team of 600+ fully remote people in 60+ countries working hard to serve the global chess community. We are here to support 200M+ chess players worldwide with the best possible product, content, and tools to serve the community!

We are a tech company. A gaming company. A content company. And we do it all with passion and commitment to the game. Above all we prize our mission-driven, flat, life-celebrating, no-corporate culture, and we look forward to meeting you and learning more about what you can bring to the team.

About You
We’re looking for a full time People Generalist to join our team and help make sure our people feel supported to deliver their best work.

What you'll do
  • Be the go-to for triaging frontline HR questions, policies, and processes.
  • Execute role changes and Rippling system edits, draft contracts, and employee letters, manage our people service desks, and respond to incoming questions and team member needs.
  • Craft & improve presentation decks, help us design team member home pages, and generally build a diverse suite of tools and resources to help us support our people.
  • Guide our new hires from offer acceptance through onboarding - ensuring they have access to the right systems and tools, know their way around, and feel welcomed and supported.
  • Lead departing team members through offboarding, handling logistics, supporting communications, and overseeing removal of system access.
  • Serve as backup support for payroll processing, covering any gaps and making sure everything runs smoothly and accurately.
  • Partner to ensure our employee data, records, and systems remain accurate.
  • Keep our policies and internal pages up to date (and in down to earth, human language!).
  • Help coordinate and support the roll out of new People programs by keeping us organized, on track, and able to execute across concurrent projects and priorities.
  • Pitch in wherever help is needed to keep the People team moving!

Preferred Skills
We're seeking someone who's organized, tech and people-savvy, and genuinely cares about creating a great place to work:
  • 5+ years experience in People/HR, preferably in a global, remote, tech or gaming company.
  • At least 2+ years of direct experience in an HR Generalist or People Ops Generalist role.
  • Solid understanding of HR fundamentals (compliance, onboarding, benefits, etc.).
  • Comfortable working with HR tools/systems (bonus points if you've worked with Rippling, Slack, and Notion).
  • Organized, detail oriented, and a good communicator. Team members can trust you to follow up, follow through, and get back to them quickly.
  • The ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and build trust.
  • An “I can fix that” attitude - we don’t expect you to know everything; but you should be someone who dives into a complicated problem vs. avoiding one.
  • Experienced in processing payroll, spotting discrepancies, and resolving concerns.
  • Tech savvy and comfortable operating an HRIS, quick to learn and adopt new technologies to decrease administrative burden and help a company scale.
  • Meticulous design and creative skills, building visual aids such as presentations and slide decks, one-pagers, and team member resources.

About the Opportunity
  • This is a full-time opportunity.
  • We are 100% remote (work from anywhere!).
  • This role is open to candidates who can work in US/CA.
