The Center for Excellence in Public Leadership (GW CEPL) within CPS has extensive experience in designing, developing, and providing leadership and management training for public sector employees in local and federal government agencies. GW CEPL is housed within the College of Professional Studies of the George Washington University, which enables CEPL to bring to its work the resources of a world-class university, as well as the resources made available by its location in Washington, DC.

To support the mission and vision of CEPL and our partners, The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, we seek an outstanding
Program Coordinator to provide functional and administrative support for the Cafritz Awards program. This position reports to the Program Director, Administration at GW CEPL and will work closely with other senior GW CEPL staff.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist in the end-to-end planning of the annual Calvin Cafritz Awards for Distinguished DC Government Employees, including vendor coordination, venue logistics, and on-site support. Maintain event timelines, budgets, and checklists to ensure seamless execution. Track project milestones, deliverables, and deadlines using CEPL-approved project management tools. Coordinate award nomination, application, and screening processes and procedures. Provide event planning for the Cafritz Awards ceremony and other events, such as selection panel meetings and information sessions. Coordinate with all vendors, such as professional videographers, video editors, and graphic designers to put together all program materials, including approval by The Foundation. Assist GW CEPL in routine program website updates, email marketing, and media campaigns (both printed campaigns and social media campaigns). Collaborate with various internal and external program stakeholders to align the appropriate resources to generate program interest and positive publicity around the Cafritz Awards. Keep thorough records of expenses, working closely with the CPS finance team and Program Director, Administration, CEPL. Serve as the primary point of contact for the program and answer typical program questions. Prepare status reports, meeting agendas, and follow-up documentation to keep stakeholders informed, including program evaluation.
Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
This is a limited term position funded through June 30, 2026 with the potential of renewal.
Minimum Qualifications: | Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Desired Skills and Experience: This job calls for a highly-motivated, entrepreneurial, and creative person, who will help us take the execution of the Cafritz Awards program to the “next level.” Ideal candidates are passionate about public service, are self-starters, and enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Other Considerations:Experience with event planning. Strong verbal, writing, and copy-editing skills. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with team members and external partners, demonstrating discretion and trustworthiness when handling confidential information and sensitive situations. Ability to interact professionally with clients and stakeholders – in person, over the phone, email, and social media. Attention to detail and ability to remain organized with multiple concurrent priorities.
