I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary:
The Threat Assessment Coordinator is a civilian member of the George Washington University Police Department and supports the university’s Threat Assessment Team (TAT) efforts by coordinating case management processes, maintaining structured documentation, and facilitating timely follow up on intervention strategies. The Threat Assessment Team is a multi-disciplinary body designed to address concerns regarding threatening behavior and potential safety risks to the university community. The team rapidly convenes to assess all threats, which are taken seriously regardless of how they are reported.

This position serves as a key operational resource in managing the flow of various threat assessment reporting options, organizing case information, and supporting the regular multidisciplinary review processes. The Threat Assessment Coordinator applies sound judgment in handling sensitive situations, ensures adherence to established protocols, and contributes to a consistent and effective institutional response to concerning behaviors.

The role requires strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple university functions and engaging effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Case Management & Coordination
  • Manage intake and tracking of reported threat concerns, ensuring accurate and timely case entry and documentation.
  • Maintain comprehensive case files, including updates, action items, and intervention tracking.
  • Coordinate follow-up activities and monitor case progression to support effective resolution.
  • Ensure case documentation aligns with institutional standards, confidentiality requirements, and applicable regulations.
Support of Threat Assessment Team’s Processes
  • Develop agendas for weekly and ad hoc team meetings, summarizing information to present to the group and tracking interactions with the subject and TAT members.
  • Capture key outcomes, recommendations, and assigned actions from case discussions.
  • Support consistency in assessment workflows, documentation practices, and case handling procedures.
Data Management & Reporting
  • Collect, evaluate, and analyze data to identify patterns, trends, and threats, providing actionable intelligence for prevention, training, and operations.
  • Analyze and report threat assessment data to support targeted training and violence prevention efforts; with continuous improvement.
  • Assist in developing reports, dashboards, and summaries for leadership and stakeholders.
Program Support & Training Coordination
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to strengthen violence prevention, intervention, and safety supports.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of materials that promote awareness of behavioral threat assessment processes.
  • Coordinate training for TAT members and seek opportunities to broaden understanding of the pathway to violence to the GW community.
  • Support coordination of training sessions and outreach efforts across the university community.
  • Stay informed on emerging practices, research, and standards in behavioral threat assessment and case management.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Partner with offices such as Human Resources, Student Affairs, Faculty Affairs, and Legal to support coordinated case management efforts.
  • Facilitate communication and information sharing across involved stakeholders.
  • Serve as a resource on case management processes and documentation expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelors’ degree in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
  • Behavioral Threat Assessment Management training within 180 days
  • Any certifications this role may be required to obtain in the future (i.e. say within 180 days, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting case management, behavioral assessment, employee relations, or risk management functions is desired.
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn incident reporting systems, case tracking platforms, or database management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information and identify trends to support decision-making.
  • Strong written communication skills, including experience summarizing complex or sensitive information.
  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex organizational environments is desired.
  • Graduate degree in a related field (e.g., psychology, public administration, higher education, or related discipline) preferred.
