Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The Communications and Marketing Assistant supports the coordination of the communications, marketing, and engagement strategy for the Fowler School of Engineering (FSE) in alignment with school and institutional goals. The Assistant is responsible for creating compelling content and experiences that resonate with prospective students, alumni, industry partners, and the broader community. These duties include creating and curating day-to-day content, both visual and written, for the school’s website, blog, printed materials, and social media, as well as supporting FSE events. The incumbent serves as a brand ambassador for both Chapman University and FSE, playing a critical role in digital storytelling for FSE.
Ability to work some evening and weekend hours to attend events and activities for job-related functions is required.
Responsibilities
Marketing and Communications
  • Assist with the development and creation of marketing materials for FSE events, student recruitment and outreach, and community and industry relations.
  • Produce and edit digital media and videos for use on social media and websites.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador for Chapman and FSE. Communicate all brand guidelines and updates to the FSE team as needed.
  • Maintain the FSE website. Contribute to the development of written copy, photo, and video assets for new and existing web pages.
  • Support and maintain a content calendar for all FSE social media and the scheduling of all posts across all channels.
  • Write content for the FSE blog and assist in reviewing and posting of blog stories. Work closely with student-hired workers to identify and research new story ideas.
  • Coordinate e-newsletters including the production, review and distribution to FSE stakeholders. Work closely with student-hired workers on the creation and delivery of the e-newsletter.
  • Assist the Communications Coordinator and student-hired workers on the use of the project management tools for all marketing and communications-related projects.

Other Duties
  • Demonstrate professionalism and poise in responding to external and various internal constituencies, including donors, industry partners, faculty, students, parents, alumni and staff.
  • Take photos and videos at FSE events to add to the digital asset management system.
  • Oversee and assign work to student employees and assist with the recruitment process of student employees.
  • Assist with the execution of FSE and institutional events as needed.
  • Work in a collaborative, flexible, and team-focused manner.
  • Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Creative Writing, or related field
  • Experience in marketing, strategic communications, or other related fields
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills to inform and influence across digital and print platforms. Proficiency in social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.
  • Highly organized, resourceful and creative with ability to plan and manage multiple priorities and deliver assignments on time.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to convey accurate information in a professional manner, with the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable – Ability to work some evening and weekend hours to attend university related events and support job-related functions is required. Local travel may be required.
  • Collaborative team player with a positive attitude – Strong commitment to working creatively and collaboratively in a customer service first environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with flexibility and adaptability to changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment (self-starter, responsive, comfortable with remote meeting/collaboration tools such as Teams, Zoom and Slack)
  • Working knowledge of branding and brand guidelines and how to translate into effective messaging and marketing efforts.
  • PC or Mac proficiency required.
  • An advanced understanding of Microsoft Office programs and the importance of project management software is a must.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems (CMS), email marketing tools, WordPress, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and execute logistics for meetings and events.
