Job Summary  | The Compensation Manager serves as a campus partner and subject-matter expert in the University of Utah’s main campus staff. This role supports organizational structure and job code design, as well as ensures compliance with state and federal regulations.

As a part of the Compensation and Workforce Analytics team within the Human Resources department, this position will work closely with HR teams, college and department leaders, and central administrative offices to support a consistent and transparent staff compensation framework across campus.

Responsibilities  | Administer compensation programs including job code evaluations, salary structure maintenance, and market competitiveness reviews Conduct market analyses and provide evidence-based recommendations for grade determination Oversee annual compensation structure planning cycles, including communication and system coordination Advise on position reviews, reclassifications, and compensation philosophy Support policy updates and ensure alignment with pay equity and compliance standards Work closely with the Workforce Analytics team in generating compensation structure reviews, dashboard updates, and data sharing Partner with leadership and HR colleagues on compensation projects such as job architecture, career pathways, and strategic workforce planning Present complex compensation findings in clear and accessible ways to a broad campus audience (Excel enthusiasts welcome!) This position supervises two compensation analysts and report to the Associate Director of Compensation and Workforce Analytics

Minimum Qualifications  | EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Manager, Compensation Management: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences  | 3–5 years’ experience in compensation or HR analytics Demonstrated proficiency working with Microsoft Excel, Tableau, and/or market benchmarking tools Experience in higher education or public sector environment Direct experience with market analyses or job code structure management PeopleSoft, PeopleAdmin, Tableau, or other University-utilized systems
