About the Role

As Director of QA, you will ensure the quality of BrainPOP products through leadership of a team of QA engineers, and partnership with engineering and product teams and leaders.

The qualified candidate is comfortable both with strategic leadership of the Quality Assurance function as well as testing alongside the team if needed. Additionally, a qualified candidate will demonstrate high proficiency with relevant technology and tools, with an eye towards continuous improvement and advancement of the function. The ideal candidate will have experience designing and implementing scalable and reliable automated testing frameworks. 

The Director will collaborate with engineering and product teams that are in the US and overseas, and is able to effectively engage, and strategically partner with teams who are not co-located.

This role will be hybrid, with time spent onsite in our NYC office weekly, as well as flexibility to work remotely when onsite presence isn't required.

In this Role You Will

  • Lead the Quality Assurance team through management, mentorship, and inspiring innovation.
  • Evaluate processes, technology, and team roles to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure optimal performance.
  • Work closely with engineering leaders to ensure high code quality and reduction of regressions defects found on production.
  • Own release management in the organization, including communication and weekly version  approval.
  • Develop new processes to ensure maximum productivity and quality.  
  • Take full responsibility and ownership for the entire QA life cycle from conception, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Design and maintain an automated testing framework, with a focus on continuous improvement of the framework, stability, and test coverage. 
  • Collaborate closely with other managers, product, and business leaders to identify and solve challenges, and advise on prioritization.
  • Develop and mentor existing team, as well as recruit, train, and onboard new team members
  • Oversee the preparation and final approval of project testing plans.
  • Collaborates with the company's executive leadership to develop and meet organizational goals while supplying expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems.
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements testing policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.

You Are

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

On Your Resume

  • 10+ years of experience in quality assurance; 4+ years in a people leadership / management role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or relevant work experience
  • Experience collaborating with offshore engineering teams
  • Extensive experience in Web development testing required, including frontend, backend, databases, automation and security.  
  • Experience with SaaS application testing required.
  • Deep technical experience with automation frameworks such as Selenium or similar tools, and languages such as Java for test automation.
  • Experience designing and implementing high quality automated testing frameworks, including CI/CD integration.
  • Ability to write well-designed, robust and comprehensive testing plans. 
  • Deep understanding of software quality assurance principles and processes.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing QA strategies and initiatives.
  • Proficiency in conducting code reviews and ensuring adherence to coding standards within the QA team.
  • Experience working in Education Technology is a plus.

Location

The BrainPOP team operates in a hybrid work environment: Each role has an in-person component at our New York headquarters or other meeting locations. 

For this role, we are seeking a candidate who lives within commuting distance of the NYC office and resides in one of the following approved hiring states:

We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. We have competitive pay bands for all other countries based on market standards. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. Based on these factors, we expect most of the candidates offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description, as posted. If so, the updated salary range will be communicated to you as a candidate.
