Senior Quality Assurance Engineer (Systems/Applications Analyst, Sr.) Full Description

Department Overview: 
We're Oregon Health & Science University's Digital Strategy team. We're the developers, web and security engineers, analysts, user experience and customer support experts who manage OHSU's digital presence. We design, implement, optimize and maintain a collection of Drupal content management systems (CMS), custom applications, and 3rd-party integrations for OHSU's public website and intranet. 
 
The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.
 
This role is the senior quality assurance (QA) engineer on the Digital Strategy team. You primarily test new functionality and do regression testing on the collections of code the team releases. Secondarily, you plan, develop, and advise on automated testing. This role gathers input from all parts of the team to design and modify testing workflows and to identify new areas and modes of testing.

Function/Duties of Position: 

Quality Assurance Operations
  • Review and validate feature and testing requirements and technical specifications
  • Develop and execute test plans with detailed test cases based on requirements, feedback, and priority
  • Document results; offer observations or improvements after analysis of test results and overall product quality
  • Collaborate with the development team on bug fix verification and validation.
  • Communicate professionally at all levels within and outside of the organization
  • Support, design, develop, and enhance test processes and reporting for QA processes in support of the QA team
  • Manage testing efforts throughout development lifecycle, including planning, execution, and maintenance
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and provide solutions

Automated Testing
  • Coordinate automated test planning
  • Design, develop, and monitor automated tests
  • Review testing workflows to find opportunities for improvements and additional automation
 
Required Qualifications:
Education:
  • Master’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and four years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and six years work related experience in the information technology field  or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
  • Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and seven years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
  • Eight years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
  • At least 3 years quality assurance experience in Agile Development environments
  • Minimum 1 year experience with automated testing tools or equivalent automation skills
  • Experience with web-based application testing (minimum 3 years)
  • Experience with integration testing between applications (minimum 3 years)

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):
  • Thorough working knowledge of software
  • Familiarity with Agile Software Development Methodologies

  • A team player and self- starter who will work side by side with the development team
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and quickly adjust as required
  • Strong ability to structure complex information for a variety of audiences
  • General knowledge of content management systems and modern website technologies
  • Ability to quickly learn new software
  • Familiarity with project management tools and software
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience with Drupal
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Drupal, Bitbucket, JIRA, Confluence, and Jenkins
  • Background in Health Care or Higher Education IT.
