Hiring Department: Technology Resources (TRecs)

Location: Texas — this position is eligible for remote work

Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40, Monday through Friday. Fixed-term position with an end date of August 31, 2027.

Salary Range: $80,000+, depending on qualifications

Purpose: Administers and maintains systems, servers, networks, and virtual machines in support of clients.

Responsibilities:

Installs, configures, maintains, upgrades, and troubleshoots complex systems, servers, networks, and virtual machines using manual and automated deployment and monitoring tools, providing technical leadership and guidance to junior staff as needed
Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves advanced hardware, software, and network/system problems, serving as an escalation point for complex or high-impact issues and coordinating with vendors and other technical teams
Configures and tests computer hardware, business applications software, and operating system software, and recommends and leads changes to systems and network configurations
Monitors system performance and designs and implements enhancements to improve reliability and performance, developing procedures to proactively address issues
Develops and maintains system documentation including standards, best practices, and maintenance and repair records
Mentors and cross-trains team members and other Technology Resources staff to ensure appropriate system coverage, and provides backup systems administration support
Plans, coordinates, and implements network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware, taking a lead role in defining security standards
Conducts routine hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with policies and configuration guidelines
Manages backup systems and oversees data backups and recovery operations, designing a schedule of system backups to ensure data/media recoverability
Investigates new technologies, attends seminars and training, and leads the implementation or recommends adoption of new technologies and best practices
Participates in planning activities to ensure long-term systems operations requirements are included in overall information systems planning
Participates in on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend support

Required Qualifications:

Work experience in systems administration
Advanced knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in systems administration
Experience managing and administering systems components such as VMware, Windows servers, Linux servers, backups, mass storage, network hardware, and software/hardware firewalls
Experience writing scripts and/or SQL queries
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to identify problems by diagnosing application, system, and hardware logs using third-party tools such as Splunk
Must agree to be fingerprinted to comply with CJIS policy requirements
Completed Security+ certification
Must be authorized to work in the United States on an ongoing, full-time basis without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
More than three years of experience in the required qualifications above
Experience supporting business applications in a university environment, including scripting and Splunk queries
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
