State Strategy Director, East Area (Open Eastern Region) Full Description

Overview: 
As part of a growth strategy under new ownership, PowerSchool is seeking an experienced sales business development professional to create a portfolio of new education and workforce solution business over the next 3-5 years. This role requires demonstrated expertise in high-level government relationship management, strategic planning, new business development in SLED/government, major program deal development, and alliance management.  This position will be responsible for working with state/ministry customers and ecosystem partners to develop and deliver education and workforce enablement solutions that have a direct impact on local and national economies.  These solutions and relationships will also be the foundation of new business that supports PowerSchool’s global expansion as a leader in education solutions. 

Responsibilities: 

Key Responsibilities:

Account Ownership & Relationship Management

  • Lead state or ministry government level sales business development (pursuit teams) in US, Canada, and international regions (LATAM, EMEA, APAC).
  • Develop and maintain trust-based relationships with education and other departmental government officials, legislators, and leaders for key support functions that have policy, budgetary, and operational control of education and workforce/labor responsibilities (includes state departments of education and ministries of education)
  • Serve as the primary point of contact, pursuit leader, and strategic advisor for named state/ministry, multi-year new business opportunities and programs 
  • Orchestrate PowerSchool multi-functional internal and outside services (e.g., Business Development contractors) in multi-year opportunity pursuits across the sales lifecycle from discovery to close
  • Maintain close coordination with district/territory sales account executives and leadership to maintain a cohesive customer- and market-facing presence at the state/ministry level
 
Strategic Growth & Expansion
  • Develop annual state & ministry revenue plans that align with new business development for prioritized and approved pursuits.
  • Develop and execute tailored state/ministry account plans that lead to new business opportunities in education and workforce enablement, and that align with territory Sales district and mid-market level plans
  • Identify, develop, and bring to close state & ministry level solutions new business based on PowerSchool portfolio SaaS and data/AI technologies
  • Identify state and ministry level education contract opportunities that support PowerSchool upsell, cross-sell, and renewal selling within the state and country by territory Sales teams
  • Develop opportunity pricing and long-term revenue strategies 
  • Collaborate with regional and global alliance partners (CSPs, SIs) and reseller/VARs to support local implementation and expansion.

Government Market Expertise
  • In collaboration with PowerSchool’s Government Affairs/Relations and Education Strategy teams, provide PowerSchool executives and sales teams with insights and informed opinions on state & ministry issues related to education and workforce development – e.g., executive briefings, large deal pursuits, Quarterly Business Reviews, etc.
  • Lead and support customer and partner discussions on key issues and industry solutions or best practices to high impact problems in education and workforce development
  • Orchestrate both internal and partner technology leads into the pursuit development across the sales cycle, to include customer use cases that shape product roadmap and acquisition efforts
  • Coordinate with Value Engineering and outside resources to incorporate solution impact analysis for PowerSchool and partner solutions
  • Stay informed on federal, state and international education trends and procurement processes.

Qualifications:
  • BS in Business, Finance, or Marketing
  • 10+ years of experience in sales business development, sales, and/ partner development in government and regulated markets.
  • Experience working with US and global government clients and associations
  • Strong cross-cultural communication and relationship-building skills
  • Experience in developing and executing GTM strategies in regulated markets
  • Experience in developing partner alliances
  • Experience working with cloud-based platforms in DaaS, AI, digital credentialling, and EdTech
  • Willingness to travel internationally (domestic and international)

A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this position is $124,000 - $156,800 USD. This compensation range is specific to the United States and it incorporates many factors including but not limited to an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience and training; licensures, degrees, and certifications; specific geographic location; internal equity; internal pay ranges; and market data/range parameters.
