About the Opportunity

The primary role of the Institutional Research (IR) Analyst is to support the institutional research and effectiveness needs of Mott Community College (MCC) in Flint, Michigan. The IR Analyst will join an established team of Ellucian consultants who have been providing dedicated Institutional Research / Effectiveness services to the MCC community through the Office of Institutional Research & Decision Support (IRDS.)

In addition to delivering high-quality data products, transformational insights, and exceptional customer service as an “internal consultant” to Mott CC, the IR Analyst will also participate with the entire Ellucian’s Strategy & Planning consulting group in a substantial, ongoing project to develop a scalable, capabilities-based resource model for delivering IR/IE services to multiple clients as the Ellucian S&P IRES unit continues to expand.

The IR Analyst is a remote position with occasional travel (< 25%) as required.

In this role, you will collaborate with the Executive Director of IRDS, the Senior Analyst, and campus stakeholders to pursue a dynamic, cutting-edge research agenda for Mott Community College. You will provide thought leadership around relevant topics such as data governance and data management, innovative research methodologies and analytical techniques, and the application of digital technologies to ensure that IRDS and Ellucian provide best-in-class consulting services to its current and future clients.

Where you will make an impact

  • Ensuring timely and accurate completion of state and federal compliance reporting.
  • Responding to internal and external ad hoc requests for data, information, and insights.
  • Planning and executing all facets of research/project design as specified on the IR/IE calendar, such as: 
  • Designing and administering data collections involving survey/evaluation instruments.
  • Extracting, compiling, and cleansing analysis-ready datasets from multiple sources.
  • Analyzing data, including mixed methods inferential research and predictive modeling.
  • Interpreting and communicating about findings with various campus constituencies.
  • Reviewing business processes and performing needs analysis with various stakeholders.
  • Identifying and recommending opportunities to improve data management practices, including the creation and maintenance of documentation for data standards, business processes, etc.
  • Developing visualizations, dashboards, and high-level performance indicators to illustrate the institution’s data assets and critical trends involving students, employees, and other populations.
  • Communicating effectively with campus stakeholders and Ellucian colleagues to strengthen the client relationship and demonstrate the value provided by the IRDS office and the Ellucian consulting group.
  • Representing the IRDS office and Ellucian on committees, task forces, and working groups with a high degree of professionalism and collegiality.

What you will bring

  • 3+ years of relevant and progressive professional experience.
  • Demonstrated mastery of quantitative and qualitative research techniques including experimental design and methodology, surveys and/or program evaluations, tabulating results, ensuring the validity and reliability of data collections, and compiling descriptive and inferential statistics.
  • Fluency in a variety of productivity applications (Microsoft O365, project management tools, etc.)
  • Ability to use extreme discretion when working with highly confidential and/or secured information.
  • Uncommon attention to accuracy, detail, and quality assurance techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, critical thinking, and information literacy skills.
  • Ability to prioritize essential work while remaining proactive and adaptable to changing needs.
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague or a similar enterprise-level student information system/ERP.
  • Experience with Stata, R, Python, or similar statistical packages/data management software.
  • Experience with Cognos, Tableau, or similar business intelligence/data science/analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with structured query languages such as MSSQL or PostgreSQL and the application of techniques to construct queries, investigate data models within relational databases, and develop point solutions involving data warehouses, ETL processes, and research-ready data architecture.
  • Knowledge of community college performance indicators and accountability standards.
  • Internships or previous employment in higher education administration, especially in the context of academic affairs, outcomes assessment, workforce development, and/or program evaluation.
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
